Fossil Kit 15

This fossil kit contains fish and marine reptile fossils from the phosphate bed deposits near Khouribga, Morocco. The fossils date from the Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic (70 million years ago) to the Eocene Period of the Cenozoic. The fossils are attractively mounted with genus and species labels in a wooden shadow box measuring 14 1/4 by 10 1/4 by 1 3/8 inches. There are more than 60 fossils of some 17 genera of fish and reptiles. Interestingly, Many fossils from the region are an adjunct of the phosphate mining industry. During phosphate mining, locals madly scramble to collect the fossils after a section of wall is dynamited. They are thus saved from destruction before the earth moving equipment arrives. Not only useful is the fossil kit (or collection if you prefer) useful for the classroom, it also makes an attractive wall mounting in office or home. In the class, students can be assigned the task of using the Internet to research the taxonomic placement of the animals, thereby learning the fundamentals of zoological taxonomy.

Price: $59.00
